Privacy Policy

SmartPlot AI ("we", "our", or "the app") is an agricultural intelligence platform that uses satellite imagery, public weather APIs, and AI models to help farmers make better decisions. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights — in plain language.
We are committed to compliance with the GDPR (EU/EEA), APPI (Japan), Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand), AVG (Netherlands), and applicable privacy laws in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Sri Lanka, and the United States.
1 What data we collect
Account data: Email address and display name when you create an account with Google or email (Firebase Authentication). Visitors who do not sign in get an anonymous session identifier, used only to apply fair-use limits.
Field boundaries: The polygon you draw on the map. If you are signed in and save a field, it is stored in your account (Google Cloud Firestore, United States). Fields are never sold.
Field context you enter: Crop, growth stage, notes, nutrient log and scouting entries. Some of these are kept only in your browser; saved fields and their context are stored in your account.
Subscription data: If you subscribe to Pro, PayPal processes the payment. We receive and store your subscription ID, plan status and renewal date — never your card or bank details.
Usage and analytics: Page views and feature usage through Google Analytics, and — only if you accept cookies — the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and LinkedIn Insight Tag to measure our advertising.
2 What we do NOT collect
Payment card details: Handled entirely by PayPal. We never see or store them.
Background location: Your location is requested only when you tap "Locate me", used once to centre the map, and not stored.
Sensitive personal data: We do not collect health, ethnic, religious, or biometric data.
3 How we use your data
Deliver the service: Your field boundary is sent to the data services listed below to fetch satellite, soil, terrain and weather data for that location.
AI advice (Pro): A summary of your field analysis (vegetation index values, soil and weather figures, crop and region) is sent to Google Gemini, or Groq as a fallback, to generate advice. We do not send your name or email.
Speed: Analysis results are cached in your browser for up to 24 hours to avoid repeating the same requests.
Fair use and billing: We count analyses per account to apply plan limits and to prevent abuse of the free service.
Aggregate statistics: Plot counts and crop areas may be aggregated by district. Any district or crop with fewer than 5 plots is withheld so no individual farm can be identified.
Improve the product: Analytics help us understand which features are used.
4 Third-party services
Google Firebase / Google Cloud: Sign-in, account and saved-field storage, and server functions (United States).
PayPal: Subscription payments. PayPal's privacy policy applies to payment data.
Copernicus Data Space (ESA/EU): Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite data. Receives the field geometry only.
Agromonitoring: Satellite and soil statistics. Receives a rectangle around your field.
Open-Meteo, MET Norway, NASA POWER, ISRIC SoilGrids, Open-Elevation, OpenStreetMap: Weather, solar, soil, elevation and mapped-farmland data. Receive coordinates only (MET Norway via our server, rounded to about 1 km).
Google Weather API (Pro): Google WeatherNext forecasts for Pro users. Receives field coordinates rounded to about 1 km, sent from our server — never your identity.
Google Gemini / Groq: AI advice for Pro users. Receive field statistics, not your identity. These providers may retain inputs under their own policies.
Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag: Analytics and advertising measurement. Meta and LinkedIn load only after you accept cookies.
5 Your rights
Access and portability: Ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you. The nutrient log can be exported as CSV at any time.
Correction: Update your name and location on your profile page.
Deletion: Delete saved fields in the app, or email us to delete your account and all associated data. We complete deletion within 30 days.
Cookie choices: Change your cookie choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" button below.
Objection and complaints: You can object to processing or lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
6 Data retention
Saved fields and profile: Kept until you delete them or close your account.
Browser cache: Expires after 24 hours; cleared when you reset the dashboard.
Fair-use counters: Kept for about two hours, then deleted automatically.
Subscription records: Kept as long as needed for billing, tax and legal obligations.
Analytics: Retained under Google's, Meta's and LinkedIn's standard retention settings.
7 Cookies and local storage
Essential: Sign-in session storage and your cookie choice. Always on, because the app cannot work without them.
Analytics: Google Analytics runs in cookieless mode until you accept cookies.
Advertising measurement: The Meta Pixel and LinkedIn Insight Tag are not loaded unless you choose "Accept all".
Local storage: Used for caching analysis results and preferences. You can clear it in your browser settings.
8 Children's privacy
Age restriction: SmartPlot AI is intended for farmers and agricultural professionals. We do not knowingly collect data from persons under 16. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us for removal.

If you are located in the EU and believe we have not adequately addressed your complaint, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority (DPA).
